DIY Fly Photography -The Cup Studio

This is not my original idea, but here is my take on it.

Fly photography can be difficult due to getting even lighting, steady shots, clean background etc. You can take a lot of the work out of the shot by setting up a small "studio" if you will for your shots. A foam cup works great to even out and soften the light, and gives you a location to attach your fly to the studio and the studio to your camera!

Quick Studding - Caddis Sure Grip Studs

studding boots done rightI've got an upcoming trip to the Juan and using the same Felt boots I did late last year. They worked fine for 95% of the terrain out there but fell short on the long flat stretches of solid rock (Limestone?)... Very slippery. So that coupled with the freezing temps I decided to stud my boots "just in case".

Picked up a pack of studs and went to town tonight, here is a quick pictorial of the process I used, they came out pretty nice and took about 10 minutes to do the whole job.

DIY Foam Ant and Popper Bodies

foam bodies01So being the cheap bastard that I am, I'm always looking for ways of tying on the cheap. Whenever I go into a crafty type store or even the hardware store I'm always on the lookout for thing I can use in tying. I like the foam ants that Eric (MudBug) has posted a Step By Step on, but was WAY too cheap to buy "Ant Bodies" for $3 per 10ct
